    Recaro seats for £30 help!

I am about to get a pair of recaro seats from an H reg ( 1990) Ford **** (sorry RS!) fiesta for £30. they are in a bit of a state and I may be ashamed to post a picture a picture as they are in poor condition.

The tilt mechanism lever on the drivers side and both 'recaro' badges are missing and the passenger seat base has collapsed. These seats have the moveable squab on the front. I will be making the seat brackets from an old Audi seat base. I have the CQ20V striped interior. I don't want to go mad and retrim everything. Has anyone any suggestions what material(s) I should use?

This will probably be added to the never ending list of jobs......

Buy alcanatara from the states and retrim everything - it is dirt cheap over there.

My mate tried this with a set of old recaros from a Manta GTE, and it was WAY more hassle than it was worth..

Indeed - as doug says - Alcantara is the way forward.....
But stupidly expensive from the official importers.
Alcantara is a brand name through and I've heard you can also get very good immitations from some upholstry specialists..... just not sure how well they wear though.
Other thing to note is that there are 2 types. Plain & lined. Plain being for covering panels / headlinings etc and lined for use in seat covers (It is kinda double skinned with a thin foam attached)
If you want carded samples - give Boyrivens in Wembley a call and tell them you're planning a re-trim for your Limo!

They also do a nice selection of velours etc if that takes your fancy.

So is this the last we're going to hear from you for a while David? You going to be stuck behind a sewing machine for the next fortnight ???

I haven't bought from that place - I just saw someone who had trimmed their doors in it and it was cheap so I book marked the site.

I have a book of alcantara samples - it is sooo cool - I just wish I had enough money to ge the whole car retrimmed in it!

Thanks for all the responses. I was wondering about getting the boring original style fabric and retrimming it with that.

It would be nice to have an alcantra interior but I feel that the cost as Doug said would be a bit .

Sarah is very good with a sewing machine and the machine would manage the 'velour' of the original interior. I don't know how it would manage alcantra and Leather is a no-no for a house hold machine.

As regards the seat brackets they can be bought from Recaro for £190 I was told in another thread. I have the Recaro diagram and so would modify it to suit my height and try to retain the Audi height adjustment for lesser mortals...

I need to get the seats and try the frame building. I also have another pair of Recaros from an RS turbo and I bought the last batch of Ford interior cloth to retrim the doors on my Turbo Moggy Pick-up ( another project on the back boiler

The good seats could be used in the mean time.

I'm not bothered about the badges but wonder where I could get a new 'tip forward' lever from.

                      Ford?

I have just won the e-bay auction for these items

                        http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...933381408&rd=1

I was swayed by the fact they are heated seats ( I think).

I didn't get the £30 seats as they were a bit far gone.

I'll keep you posted as to progress..
